There are two major amusement parks quite near San Rafael – they are both easy to reach and are always popular with our students. For thrills of a different kind, why not try white water rafting in some of California's many rivers? It's a great summer activity and always fun!
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
This amusement park is a combination of wildlife park, aquarium and theme park. It features animal shows, an aquarium, roller coasters and many other other rides.
The park is located about 45 kilometers northeast of San Rafael in Vallejo. It can be reached quite easily by public bus.
Great America
This is another exciting amusement park with lots of roller coasters, water rides and shows. Generally, though, our students prefer Six Flags Discovery Kingdom because of its rides and animal shows and because it's not as far from San Rafael.
Great America is in the town of Santa Clara – about 100 kilometers south of San Rafael.
White Water Rafting
California has a variety of rivers that offer excellent opportunities for white water rafting. Anyone from complete beginner to advanced can join in the fun, and there are several tour operators that can help you to find a location best suited to your level and experience.
The best time for white water rafting is between April and July, but there are some rivers that offer rafting throughout the summer and into fall.
Skydiving
If you are looking for extreme excitement, why not try skydiving! It's something you will never forget, and the adrenaline rush is unlike anything you've ever experienced before.
If you've not tried skydiving before, take your first jump in tandem with an experienced instructor.
