Beaches
Santa Barbara has lots of beautiful beaches. Some are great for beach volleyball, others offer some good surfing.

Surfing
Arroyo Burro is one of the best beaches for surfing in the area. Try it yourself or take a lesson.

Kayaking
Santa Barbara’s beaches offer many kayaking opportunities. Rent a kayak and try for yourself, or join an organized kayaking trip.

Hiking

Rock Climbing
The mountains of Santa Barbara offer a great opportunity for rock climbing. Lessons are offered for beginners to advanced.

Biking
Without a doubt, the best way to experience Santa Barbara is on a bicycle. You can easily explore the Waterfront, Downtown, and the Santa Barbara Mission in a weekend. The city streets are very bike friendly, with wide bike lanes and one-way streets.
Skater’s Point
Santa Barbara's popular skateboard park called "skaters point" is use mostly by skateboarders and only a few inline skaters. Bring your helmet and pads.

Inline Skating

Whale Watching
Santa Barbara is prime territory for whale watching. From January through March, about 28,000 Pacific gray whales pass by; from June through October, blue and humpback whales pass through the same waters. The best viewing spot on land is Shoreline Park (Directions from Student Home: CLICK HERE), where a bronze whale tail marks the prime vantage point.

Many local companies conduct whale watching excursions, including Condor Cruises - Santa Barbara (this site also offers information on the different kinds of whales).

Paragliding
Take a lesson and learn to fly, or just take a tandem flight together with an experienced instructor – no prior experience necessary!

Skydiving
For those of you who would like to jump out of an airplane in order to see Santa Barbara County and the ocean, try skydiving! Tandem jumps for beginners and courses are offered.

Horseback Riding
Ride into the wilderness and enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery! Go for a few hours or stay over night. Rides are offered year round.

Join a bass fishing trip on Lake Casitas – one of the best bass fishing lakes in the world.
