At the Santa Barbara Student Home™ only students live together in their own house. It’s like a home! Students share their experience in the USA, learn about other cultures, and make lifetime friends from all over the world.

The Student Home™ is a large, two-story building with 8 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. All students have their own desks and much privacy so they can study. And the many patios and the yard are ideal for enjoying the California sunshine.

Type of Housing
Double rooms (single and triple rooms may be available upon request) with shared common areas. The house is divided into male/female sections, and all rooms can be locked.

Bedrooms
Most bedrooms are double rooms but single and triple rooms may be available upon request. The rooms are equipped with beds, desks, chairs, lamps, shelf space and large shared closets.

Bathrooms
The bathrooms are usually shared by up to 3-4 students.  All bathrooms are equipped with bathtubs and showers, toilet and storage area for personal items.

Kitchen
There is one large kitchen in the house complete with all equipment, utensils and dishes; for the girls only, there is a second kitchenette and dining area.

Living, Dining and Recreation
The house has a comfortable living room with TV/DVD/Video entertainment, movies and games.  There is also a dining room, and a recreation room with ping-pong and TV/DVD entertainment. The Student Home has a beautiful garden with fruit trees and many patios.

Management and Security
There is a friendly house manager, an on-site assistant and a 24-hour toll-free helpline available.  All students are required to pay a refundable security deposit upon arrival (see "Fees" section).  All students receive a key for their bedroom and for the outside doors.

Internet and Phone
There is free, high-speed wireless Internet access in the entire house and on the patios.  There are also phones with free local calls (a phone card is required for calls outside the Santa Barbara area).

Utilities
Electricity, gas, water, local phone service, cable TV (about 90 channels), and high-speed Internet are free.  Please remember that electricity in the USA is 110 Volts and that you may need an adaptor.

Blankets, Sheets and Towels
Blankets, sheets and towels are available for a low rent fee (see "Fees" section).  Students are responsible for washing their sheets and towels.

Cleaning Service and Laundry
There is a weekly cleaning service. However, students are required to keep the house clean and clean their own dishes.  There is a coin-operated washer and dryer in the Student Home for students to use.

Meals
No meals are included in the housing fee. Most students enjoy cooking and eating together. However, there are many cheap restaurants nearby.

Location
The Student Home is located in a very safe area only a short walk from ELS, downtown, shopping, entertainment, and the beach; City College can be reached through a quick bus ride, or nice bicycle ride or walk (2 kilometers). Many restaurants and stores are very near the Student Home. There is also a near bus stop with connections to City College, nearby cities, and all points of interest.   [ Map ]
