near the Northgate Mall and another shopping center, near
restaurants, stores, banks and more. Downtown and the
ELS Language Center at Dominican University are not far;
College of Marin and San Francisco are only a short bus ride
away. Students are able to reach school and all points
of interest through our free shuttle bus, by foot, by

Northgate Mall
Northgate Mall
is a large, modern shopping mall where you can find
everything you need! It's very near the Student
Home™. Here students
can find: - Cinema:
a
large cinema with 15 screens shows the latest movies!
- Restaurants: there is an Applebee's and many
other
restaurants in the Food Court.
- Coffee Shops: you can find some excellent
coffee, good pastries and Wi-Fi Internet.
- Bars: Applebee's and Chili's have a typical
American bar area.
- Stores: there are two large department
stores, many fashion stores,
and all kinds of specialty shops inside the mall and at the nearby Shopping Center.
- Grocery Stores: the large Safeway
supermarket is nearby.
- Drug Stores: two large drugstores carry a
huge selection of toiletries and medicine.
- Banks: there are several large banks right
at Northgate Mall.
Just walk out of the Student Home™
and turn left, and you'll be almost there.

Downtown
Downtown San Rafael has a
beautiful downtown with much to do:  - Restaurants:
San Rafael is famous for its huge variety of international
restaurants. There are
over 150 restaurants from all over the world.
- Cafes: There are several outdoor cafes serving
coffee, cake and ice cream.
- Shopping: There are many stores, including
jewelry, fashion and groceries (including an Asian
Market). A farmers market on Thursday evenings features
fresh produce, art, jewelry and live music.
- Bars: If you are at least 21 years old, you can
enjoy a good beer and live music in one of the many
downtown bars. The most famous bar, Fourth Street Tavern
is only a few blocks from the Student Home™.
- Billiard: Classic Billiards is a great place to
shoot pool with your friends.
- Cinema: The historic Rafael Theater shows famous classic movies.
- Bowling: Enjoy an evening of bowling with your
fellow students at Country
Club Bowl – open on weekends till midnight.

public bus, or walk downtown after school from ELS at
Dominican University.

Grocery Stores
 There
are many stores near the Student
Home™, and students can do all their
grocery shopping in the neighborhood: Safeway, a large
supermarket is only a few blocks away. Many more

Market, and Trader Joe’s) and the Asian Market can be
reached by our free shuttle bus.

Trader Joe's
Trader Joe’s at Montecito Shopping Center is
not only very cheap but you also find
excellent groceries there. Many items are
imported. Trader Joe’s is our favorite
grocery store.

Restaurants
 There
many restaurants near the Student
Home™, some of which are very inexpensive:
there are the many restaurants at Northgate Mall, the cheap
food at the food court of Northgate Mall, and there is a
McDonalds and other fast food restaurants nearby.
Little Mandarin serves inexpensive Chinese food and is a
favorite restaurant of Dominican students; Taqueria San Jose
serves authentic Mexican food and yummy burritos.
The cafeteria at Dominican
University also serves good and inexpensive food.
And if you go downtown, there you'll
find many, many more restaurants, bars and coffee shops.
