 At
the San Rafael Student Home™ only students live together in
their own house. It’s like a home! Students share their
experience in the USA, learn about other cultures, and make
lifetime friends from all over the world.
The Student Home™ is a beautiful, clean, and newly remodeled
building with 16 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. All students have their
own desks and much privacy so they can study.
Type of Housing
Double rooms (single and triple rooms may be available upon
request) with shared common areas. The house is divided into
male/female sections, and all rooms can be locked.
Bedrooms
Most bedrooms are double rooms but single and triple rooms
may be available upon request. The rooms are equipped with
beds, desks, chairs, lamps, shelf space and large shared
closets.
Bathrooms
The bathrooms are usually shared by only 3-4 students. All
bathrooms are equipped with showers, toilet and storage area
for personal items.
Kitchen
There is one large kitchen in the house complete with all
equipment, utensils and dishes.
Living, Dining and Recreation
The house has a comfortable living room with TV/DVD/Video
entertainment, movies and games; there is a second living
room with TV/DVD/Video entertainment in the female section.
There is also a large dining room, and a recreation room
with ping-pong, karaoke and TV/DVD/Video entertainment. The
Student Home has a very large garden and many patios.
Management and Security
There is a friendly house manager, two on-site assistants and
a 24-hour toll-free helpline available. All students receive a
key for their bedroom and for the outside doors. The
Student Home is located in a very safe area.
Internet and Phone
There is free, high-speed Wi-Fi Internet access in the
entire house and on the patios. There are also phones
with free local calls (a phone card is required for calls
outside the San Rafael area).
Utilities
Electricity, gas, water, local phone service, cable TV
(about 90 channels), and high-speed Wi-Fi Internet are free.
Please remember that electricity in the USA is 110 Volts and
that you may need an adaptor.
Blankets, Sheets and Towels
All students receive blankets, sheets and towels when
they arrive. Students are responsible for washing
their sheets and towels.
Cleaning Service and Laundry
There is a daily cleaning service. However, students are
required to keep the house clean and clean their own dishes.
There are coin-operated washers and dryers in the Student
Home for students to use.
Meals
Meal plans for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
are available at the Dominican University cafeteria at a
discounted price (you can buy a coupon book at the ELS office;
no meals are included in the housing fee). Also, there are
many cheap restaurants nearby. However, the Student
Home has complete kitchen and dining facilities, and most students
enjoy cooking and eating together at the Student Home.
Location and Transportation
The Student Home is located in a very
safe area only a 5-minutes walk to Northgate Mall
(with cinemas, department
stores, fashion stores, restaurants, banks and much more).
There are also many other stores including a supermarket and
a drugstore.

There is a free shuttle bus to
ELS and
Dominican University (5
minutes/3.5 kilometers), to
College of Marin Indian Valley Campus
(15 minutes/15 kilometers), as well as all afternoon to
supermarkets, transit center, and downtown according to
student requests.
There is
also a bus stop next to the Student Home (with express buses
to San Francisco and the Transit Center in San Rafael), and
bicycles are available for a very low rent.
